Ethiopian Airlines Expands Regional Reach with New Twin Otter Aircraft

Ethiopian Airlines is expanding its reach in East Africa.

The airline recently purchased two De Havilland Canada Twin Otter Classic 300-G aircraft.

These smaller planes will allow Ethiopian Airlines to serve remote communities and expand tourism opportunities. The aircraft’s ability to land on short, unimproved airstrips will open access to previously unreachable areas.

This initiative supports economic development and improves access to essential services such as medical care. Ethiopian Airlines plans to further expand its domestic network, constructing new aviation facilities to support its growth. The airline currently serves 22 domestic destinations within Ethiopia.

Africa’s G20 Tourism Leadership: Shaping a Sustainable & Inclusive Future

South Africa’s recent hosting of the G20 Tourism Working Group in Durban marks a significant step for African leadership in global tourism. This event served as a powerful platform to advocate for an inclusive and sustainable tourism sector across the continent. The focus was on collaborative strategies and partnerships to achieve this vision.

Four key priorities emerged from the Durban meeting: leveraging AI and digital innovation to empower small and medium-sized tourism enterprises; securing funding and investment to create opportunities for women and youth; improving air connectivity to facilitate sustainable and affordable travel; and building resilience within the sector through climate-smart policies and community-led initiatives.

The meeting achieved tangible results, boosting Durban’s profile as a business events destination and creating local employment opportunities. The upcoming G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg this November is expected to further stimulate the South African economy, generating jobs and infrastructure improvements. This presents a unique opportunity to showcase South Africa as a leading tourism and investment destination.

Asia-Pacific Travel Spend Soars: $6.8 Trillion Forecast by 2029

Asia-Pacific travel spending is projected to reach a massive $6.8 trillion by 2029. This growth, highlighted at the Arabian Travel Market (ATM), presents significant opportunities for the global tourism industry.

Outbound travel from the Asia-Pacific region is expected to increase by 7% annually, with intra-regional trips making up 61% of all journeys by 2025. A significant portion of these travelers will venture outside the region, with online bookings dominating.

This surge is driven by changing travel preferences. Experiences are prioritized, digital tools heavily influence decisions, and cultural immersion is increasingly sought after. Social media, particularly TikTok, and even television shows like “The White Lotus,” are shaping travel choices. High spending per traveler, averaging $300 daily, is largely attributed to Chinese tourists.

Destinations are responding with targeted strategies. Dubai leverages its strong air links and digital marketing on platforms like Bilibili, while Saudi Arabia takes a localized approach, tailoring experiences to the diverse cultural nuances of the Asia-Pacific region. Sustainability is also key, with a significant percentage of younger travelers willing to pay more for eco-friendly options.

That’s it for today, thank you for reading.
