Nairobi’s Westlands Emerges as a Prime Location for Hotel Investments and Business Tourism

Nairobi’s Westlands is experiencing a surge in hotel investment.

This growth is fueled by Kenya’s expanding tourism and business travel sectors.

Westlands’ strategic location, close to the city center, makes it attractive for both business and leisure travelers.

Major corporations and financial institutions have established a strong presence in the area. This creates consistent demand for hotel rooms and supports local businesses. The addition of popular malls and key brand headquarters further enhances Westlands’ appeal as a vibrant destination.

Removing Visa Barriers to Boost Intra-Africa Business Tourism and Event Planning

Intra-African tourism is ripe for growth, but faces significant obstacles.

Visa restrictions, coupled with high airfare costs and insufficient infrastructure, hinder the free flow of tourists within the continent. This results in a substantial loss of revenue, as many African travelers spend their money outside of Africa.

Addressing these challenges requires a concerted effort. Streamlining visa processes, leveraging technology for faster and more efficient border controls, and improving regional connectivity are crucial steps. The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agreement, while ratified, needs more robust implementation to truly facilitate the free movement of people and goods.

Ultimately, boosting intra-African tourism means unlocking significant economic potential. It creates jobs, particularly for young people, and celebrates the unique cultural heritage of the continent. Promoting this sector requires a collaborative approach involving tourism ministers, transport authorities, and the aviation industry.

Arusha Airport Upgrade: Easier Access to Tanzania’s Safari Circuit for Incentive Travel

Arusha Airport’s recent upgrade significantly improves access to Tanzania’s renowned northern safari circuit.

The airport achieved international status in June 2025, thanks to substantial infrastructure improvements funded by the Tanzania Airports Authority.

These upgrades, costing €3.3 million, include runway extensions, enhanced lighting, and a larger terminal, enabling 24-hour operations and increased passenger capacity (now 1,000 at a time). The new facilities boast amenities such as duty-free shops and a restaurant.

This development, strongly supported by the Tanzania Association of Tour Operators, reduces travel time to popular parks like Serengeti and Ngorongoro, boosting tourism and making Tanzania more competitive as a safari destination. Currently, flights connect Arusha to Nairobi, Kenya.
