Addis Ababa, Africa’s diplomatic heart, is set to boost its conference tourism with new infrastructure and cultural sites. As the home of the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the Ethiopian capital is already a key destination for global events. Now, with support from government initiatives, it’s becoming even more attractive.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has launched projects like Sheger Park, Unity Park, and the Addis Ababa Science Museum, aimed at making Ethiopia a top global destination. “We are now ready to reap the rewards of our past efforts,” said Ahmed, highlighting the government’s commitment to tourism growth.
These projects blend Ethiopia’s rich heritage with modern amenities, creating spaces that draw both locals and visitors. Unity Park, for instance, celebrates Ethiopian history within the Grand Palace, while the Adwa Victory Museum honors the country’s legacy of resilience.
Addis Ababa’s conference tourism is also set to grow with the expansion of Ethiopian Airlines, including a new airport and an additional 124 aircraft, improving global connectivity and the city’s capacity to host major events. Recently, Addis Ababa successfully hosted 20 international conferences, showcasing the city’s potential.
With improved venues, stunning landscapes, and historic landmarks, Addis Ababa is poised to attract even more global gatherings, boosting Ethiopia’s economy and solidifying its place as a cultural and diplomatic crossroads.
