10 Unexpected Accessibility Tips for Inclusive Meetings & Events

10 Practical Tips for More Accessible Meetings in Africa

Planning accessible meetings isn’t just about ticking boxes; it’s about creating truly inclusive experiences. Start by verifying accessibility claims yourself—never rely on a venue’s word without checking. Site visits should include inspecting guest rooms and ensuring transportation, like ADA-accessible vans, come with properly trained drivers who understand how to assist all attendees.

Communication matters. Train directional staff to provide clear, detailed guidance—no vague pointing. Brief speakers on accessibility practices such as using microphones and describing visual aids. Remember that speakers themselves may have their own accessibility needs, so ensure ramps, podiums, and microphone heights are adaptable. When preparing materials, use large, high-contrast fonts and avoid glossy paper to improve readability.

Event flow plays a key role in inclusion. Allow extra time between sessions for guests who may need more time to navigate the venue. A crisis management plan for attendees with disabilities should be in place—emergency procedures must consider mobility challenges. Small adjustments like these can make a significant difference in ensuring your events are truly welcoming for all.

The events industry is undergoing a wave of consolidation, with six major acquisitions taking place in just one month. Leading global players are strengthening their portfolios, expanding internationally, and enhancing their service offerings to stay competitive. These strategic moves highlight the industry’s rapid transformation. As companies merge and expand, event planners and businesses need to stay agile and adaptable in this shifting landscape. The African events market must prepare for the ripple effects, leveraging opportunities presented by these acquisitions while navigating the challenges of an increasingly competitive field.

ASKY Airlines Adds Boeing 737 MAX 8: More Comfort, Efficiency in Africa

ASKY Airlines has expanded its fleet with a brand-new Boeing 737 MAX 8, officially registered as ET-BBB. Arriving on March 18, 2025, this aircraft replaces an aging 737-700 NG that served for 15 years. With 8 Business Class seats and 177 in Economy, the new addition enhances travel comfort while stepping up the airline’s operational efficiency.

Beyond seating, the Boeing 737 MAX 8 introduces advanced fuel-efficient technology, leading to lower fuel consumption and reduced CO₂ emissions. The aircraft’s quieter engine design minimizes noise pollution, improving the experience for passengers and communities along its flight routes. This move aligns with ASKY’s sustainability efforts, ensuring responsible growth in Africa’s aviation sector.

ASKY now operates a fleet of 14 aircraft, connecting 29 cities across 27 African countries. Backed by key regional financial institutions and Ethiopian Airlines as a strategic partner, ASKY continues to invest in modernizing its services. This latest fleet upgrade strengthens the airline’s position as a key player in Africa’s MICE and travel industry.

ECOVISA: West Africa’s Single Visa Launches Soon, Easier Travel for 12 Countries

ECOVISA is set to reshape travel across West Africa, allowing seamless entry into twelve ECOWAS member states with a single visa. Modeled after the Schengen visa, this initiative aims to boost regional integration, trade, and tourism. A recent technical workshop in Lagos brought together experts to refine the ECOVISA digital platform, ensuring a smooth, secure, and efficient application process. Key topics included data security, platform compatibility, and user experience, all crucial for building confidence among travelers and authorities.

The twelve participating countries are Benin, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo. While Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger exited ECOWAS earlier this year, the initiative remains a major step toward a more connected West Africa. With simplified visa procedures, both business and leisure travel within the region are expected to see significant growth.

For the MICE industry, ECOVISA creates new possibilities. Event planners can now design multi-country conferences and exhibitions with fewer logistical hurdles. The streamlined visa process should enhance attendance for international delegates, fostering greater collaboration and investment across the region. West Africa is positioning itself as a more accessible and dynamic destination for business events, strengthening its economic footprint globally.

That’s it for today.
