Ethiopian Airlines Launches Airbus A350-1000 on Washington Dulles Route
Ethiopian Airlines has introduced the Airbus A350-1000 to its Washington Dulles route, marking a significant upgrade in its long-haul offerings. Following the delivery of Africa’s first A350-1000 in November, Ethiopian intends to expand its services, particularly to Dulles, which will host the highest number of flights for this new aircraft in their network. The fleet includes four A350-1000s, each accommodating 395 passengers—46 in business and 349 in economy. Dulles is key to Ethiopian’s North American operations, serving a strong Ethiopian diaspora of over 75,000 and a robust African immigrant community. Having started Dulles flights in 1998 with the 767, the airline now operates up to 11 weekly departures to and from Addis Ababa, via Rome and Lomé.
Passenger data reveals the route’s strong performance, with an 85% load factor over the last year, peaking above 90% between May and August. Connectivity across Africa and North America remains outstanding, with Addis Ababa facilitating significant onward connections to destinations like Nairobi and Mogadishu. Ethiopian Airlines has cemented Washington Dulles as its premier market in the U.S., offering unparalleled capacity and flexibility for travelers and reinforcing its strategy of robust North American expansion.
