Johannesburg Tourism Company has introduced a Tourism Ambassador Programme to bolster visitor safety and create employment opportunities for local youth. Launched in November 2024, the initiative deploys 227 trained ambassadors to key tourism sites across the city, enhancing services like information sharing, crime prevention, and customer assistance. The programme, in collaboration with public and private stakeholders, aims to create a safer, more welcoming environment for tourists while equipping unemployed young people with practical skills and work experience through the Public Employment Programme.

The ambassadors underwent comprehensive training covering first aid, customer service, financial literacy, and local governance, among other topics, ensuring they are well-prepared for their roles. CEO Thandubuhle Mgudlwa highlighted the programme’s dual impact—improving tourism safety and fostering long-term job prospects for participants. Building on the success of previous efforts, the initiative reflects Johannesburg’s commitment to sustainable tourism growth and community empowerment.

Qatar-Cameroon Open Skies: Unlimited Flights Boost Africa Air Travel

Qatar and Cameroon have entered a landmark air services agreement, granting airlines from both nations unlimited access to each other’s airspace. Signed on January 21, 2025, by Qatar’s Minister of Transport H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani and Cameroon’s Minister Ngalle Bibehe Jean Ernest Massena, this agreement opens doors for unrestricted passenger and cargo flights, enhancing air connectivity between the two regions.

This initiative aligns with Qatar's strategy to expand global air links and foster international collaboration in transportation and civil aviation. Beyond the agreement's immediate impact on travel and trade, discussions at the signing ceremony also explored opportunities for deeper cooperation in aviation growth, marking a meaningful step toward strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.
