Joburg's New Tourism Ambassadors: Boosting Safety & Youth Employment

Johannesburg Tourism has launched a Tourism Ambassador Programme, deploying 227 trained youth across key attractions to improve visitor safety, enhance service, and tackle youth unemployment. Active since November 2024, the initiative equips ambassadors with skills such as first aid, customer service, and crime prevention, offering both professional development and practical work experience. This collaboration with the city’s Public Safety Department aims to foster secure, visitor-friendly environments while boosting local employment prospects.

CEO Thandubuhle Mgudlwa emphasized the programme's dual focus on safety and job creation, with careful candidate selection and robust training laying the groundwork for success. Early results are promising, with past participants securing lasting roles in tourism.
