The Association of African Exhibition Organisers (AAXO) held its Annual General Meeting on June 21 2024, unveiling its new board members for 2024/2025. This diverse group of professionals highlights AAXO’s commitment to collaboration and excellence in the African events industry.
In 2023/2024, AAXO focused on revitalizing the exhibitions sector, aiding members in their recovery and growth. Major accomplishments included forming strategic partnerships with public entities like the South Africa National Convention Bureau and Infrastructure South Africa, emphasizing education and youth development through the AAXO Youth Committee and AAXO Leadership Summit, and promoting sustainability and best practices. AAXO aims to expand its reach across Africa, providing ongoing support and value to its members.
The new board members for 2024/2025 are:
- Chair: Gary Corin, Managing Director at Specialised Exhibitions
- Gary Corin is set to enhance AAXO’s role in developing specialized exhibitions across Africa with his extensive experience and successful track record. “As the incoming Chairperson, I extend my gratitude to our outgoing Chairperson, Devi Paulsen-Abbott,” said Corin. “It is an honor to build upon that foundation and continue the important work of the AAXO Board.”
- Vice-Chair: Projeni Pather, Managing Director at Exposure Marketing
- Projeni Pather, former Chair and Spokesperson of AAXO, is known for her passion for collaboration and innovation. As Vice-Chair, she brings deep insight into the African events landscape.
- Treasurer: James Bull, Sales Director at Informa Group
- Serving his second term, James Bull’s financial expertise ensures AAXO’s fiscal health and sustainability.
New board members include Tracy Gounden from Messe Frankfurt South Africa, Adele Hartdegen from Dogan Events, Joshua Low from dmg events, and Errol Bryce from VUKA Group. They are supported by Devi Paulsen-Abbott, Immediate Past-Chair, Cornelle du Preez, Venue Committee Chair, and Anthea Buys, Office Manager.
The new board will focus on youth development, sustainability, and global recognition for the African events and exhibitions sector. “Our upcoming initiatives include attracting diverse, young talent, promoting sustainability, ensuring supply chain reliability, and achieving world-class standards,” concluded Corin. “Marketing exhibitions as a catalyst for economic growth will also be a priority. I look forward to collaborating with all stakeholders in the industry.”
